Skopje, 20 June 2017 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski has met with the EU Ambassador to Macedonia, Samuel Zbogar, the party said in a press release.
The interlocutors discussed current challenges, the political state of play at the moment and Macedonia's European integration bid, stated the press release.
Gruevski said that a membership to the EU was a strategic interest of the country alongside the fulfillment of high criteria required for the integration processes to make headway.
Macedonia, he noted, has been kept away from European processes for far too long. Also, there is a need to acknowledge reforms implemented thus far, efforts and achievements made on the path to EU integration, the leader noted.
Gruevski also said VMRO-DPMNE would play a proactive role in the Euro-integration process, support future reforms considered vital for EU membership all the while 'keeping a watchful eye on solutions being realized by SDSM under the pretext of reforms that are detrimental to the country and its citizens.'
"VMRO-DPMNE pinpointed the growing tendency to completely put the media sector at the hands of one party after the formation of a SDSM-led government, by political prosecution and intimidation, pressure exerted through the Special Public Prosecutor's Office and other formats of censorship or auto-censorship of media owners, editors and journalists," VMRO-DPMNE said in the press release. ba/17:16
