Cinedays awards presented

Skopje, 26 November 2012 (MIA) - The prize for best film "Golden Star" at the official selection of the 11th European Film Festival Cinedays went to Ignatio Ferreras for Arrugas - Wrinkles film.

It is a film about old age, confusion, illusion and inability. Animation is used here to draw an impression, highlighting only what is essential, avoiding patronization of old age and tasteless clichés. Humor, humanity and love are the tools used to draw a very realistic and moving picture of a last chapter in life, we all may encounter and fear, producer and jury member Jan Harlan said late Sunday at awards presentation ceremony in Millennium cinema.

Film editor at "Egypt Today" magazine Sherif Awad and Macedonian director Vardan Tozija were also members of the jury.

The first mention should go to Bernd Buder for selecting ten very good films and making it very difficult for the jury. Limited to 3 prizes and a “Special Mention” we were forced to ignore very well made films, Harlan said announcing the winners.

The prize for best director "Silver Star" was awarded to Huseyn Tabak for (DEINE SCHOENHEIT IST NICHTS WERT) - Your beauty is worth nothing. The prize "Blue Star" for the best script was presented to (UNE ESTONIENNE A PARIS) – An Estonian in Paris by Agnes Feuvre, Lise Macheboeu and Ingmar Raag. "Special Mention" was presented to a film from Morocco by Mohcine Besri (LES MISCREANTS).

The prize "Golden Sun" in the section Cinebalkan goes to the film CLIP by the Serbian director Maja Milos for her passionate, brutal and disturbing tale of love and lust in a degraded world.

Special Mention was presented to the Romanian film EVERYBODY IN OUR FAMILY directed by Radu Jude. The film masterfully depicts a spiral of despair, in a disintegrating family. Nonetheless it’s peculiar humor makes us laugh.

The awarding ceremony was crowned with screening of the latest work of art of Serbian director Goran Paskaljevic 'When Day Breaks' - a story of a retired music professor, Misha Brankov, who under unusual circumstances discovers his true origins.

This year festival's edition also saw 40 gala-premieres by famous directors and renowned festival laureates on the 40th anniversary of the Youth-Cultural Center, which organises Cinedays. sk/10:37
