MNT to premiere new stage production of Molière's Tartuffe

MNT to premiere new stage production of Molière

Skopje, 15 December 2016 (MIA) - The Macedonian National Theater (MNT) will premiere on December 20 its latest production of Molière's Tartuffe, directed by Galin Stoev.

The Bulgaria-born theater director directed the seminal play two years ago at Comédie-Française, or better known as the House of Molière.

Macedonian actor Dragan Spasov-Dac stars as Tartuffe, the leading character in the play written in the 17th century. It elaborates a universal theme - the two-faced individual as a metaphor for widespread hypocrisy in the society.

Tartuffe is considered a groundbreaking work of art in the world of theater, according to MNT director Dejan Projkovski.

"It is a play with which directors and theater companies staging it are testing their maturity," he told a news conference on Thursday in Skopje.

Director Stoev said he had directed a new version of the play, completely different from the one staged at Comédie-Française in 2014.

Stoev makes a comeback to MNT for the first time in 17 years after directing Antigone in Technoland in 1999. In the meantime, he has made a name for himself in Europe cooperating with some of the most prestigious national theaters. ba/14:23
