Skopje, 17 February 2017 (MIA) - The Social-Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) is blaming Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski over his recent visit to the United States. SDSM is attacking Jolevski because he met with US House Representative Dana Rohrabacher, who later in an interview with an Albanian TV station said that Macedonia should be partitioned.
The Defense Ministry responded that Minister Jolevski has presented the country with dignity and has affirmed the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Macedonia. "We would like to remind SDSM that in 2008 then Ambassador Zoran Jolevski negotiated the Declaration for strategic partnership between the United States of America and Macedonia which explicitly affirms the Macedonian territorial integrity and the unitary character of the state. During his last stay, Minister Jolevski met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Yee, and the Macedonian public was informed by the State Department that the US supports the Macedonian territorial integrity and sovereignty", the Defense Ministry said in its reaction.
SDSM spokesman Petre Shilegov accused Jolevski on Thursday over the meeting with Rohrabacher, who was one of the congressmen who Jolevski met with. "The Minister should explain what he discussed with Dana Rohrabacher during his meeting. It is unacceptable that the Defense Minister uses his privileges to organize private trips and meetings across the world and afterwards people call that Macedonia should be partitioned", said Shilegov.
Rohrabacher has often pushed the idea of redrawing the map of the Balkans, calling for transfers of territory with the goal to create states along ethnic borders in the place of current multiethnic states.cc/14:34
