Skopje, 21 April 2017 (MIA) - Macedonia Railways is launching a campaign to raise awareness among pupils and high school students of the dangers of taking selfies on trains located in railway facilities of the public enterprise.
The campaign is launched after a 15-year old boy was electrocuted while taking a selfie on top of a train.
The campaign was kicked off Friday at a high school in Skopje, where flyers were handed out to students and videos were screened. Teams have been set up to tour all elementary and high schools in Skopje for lectures about the dangers of being killed by an electric shock on trains.
"We are going to educate teenagers to use trains as transportation means, instead of climbing on top of them to take pictures," Igor Korunoski, director of the Macedonian Railways - Transport, told a news conference on Friday.
We urge young people to be careful and to act responsible, he added telling parents to teach their children that railroad facilities of Macedonian Railways were places of a high voltage electric network up to 25,000 volts. According to him, it can be fatal for people to even stand as close as a meter to the electric installation.
The campaign, which bears the motto "NO to a selfie on a train - it is worth living", will be extended across Macedonia if necessary. ba/13:49
