Skopje, 19 June 2017 (MIA) - Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will pay Tuesday and Wednesday a visit to Bulgaria where he is set to meet with Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov and President Rumen Radev.
Sofia will be the second destination after Brussels that Zaev is to visit after the formation of the new Macedonian government.
According to Zaev, the visit to Sofia is important in opening a new page in the relations with neighbouring country, Bulgaria and the role of this country, which will take over the EU presidency.
Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov after the formation of the new Macedonian government, expressed confidence that Sofia and Skopje will work to strengthening good neighbourly relations and Macedonia's further approximation with the EU and NATO.
Former Bulgarian PM Sergei Stanishev and leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party assessed tomorrow’s Zaev – Borisov meeting as clear sign for good neighbourly relations.
This is Zaev’s second visit abroad after Brussels. I hope that the reason will prevail and treaty of good-neighbourliness regulating mutual relations will be signed. Our interest is Macedonia to be stable, Stanishev told Bulgarian radio "Darik".
Former President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Stefan Vodenicharov expects that meeting of the prime ministers will help EU and NATO doors to be opened for Macedonia.
In the past months in Bulgaria we were concerned about the crisis in Macedonia. It's good that things are back to normal and it is good that the EU and NATO already reach out to Macedonia - it is a very good sign, Vodenicharov told BGNES.
According to him, Bulgaria as a next holder of the EU presidency can support Macedonia on its road to EU membership, and open opportunities for resolution of bilateral issues accumulated over the past twenty years.
Macedonian government delegation led by Zaev will also hold several business meetings in Sofia. sk/12:04
