Riga, 19 June 2017 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi who takes part Monday at the 8th Parliamentary Intelligence Security Forum in Riga, meets with Latvian Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece.
At the meeting Xhaferi thanked for Latvia’s strong and concrete support to Macedonia in the sphere of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, also joint statement on opening of EU accession negotiations with the Republic of Macedonia, adopted by the representatives of the European Affairs Committees of Parliaments of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in 2012, was underlined as positive impulse. The statement had promoted the concept of parallel resolution of the name issue and start of accession negotiations, a concept that was then supported by many EU member states, speaker’s Cabinet said in a press release.
Murniece congratulated Xhaferi on assuming his duty as Parliament Speaker and the formation of new government as first step towards stabilization of the political situation in the country.
She also underlined that Latvia will remain strong supporter to Macedonia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, because the stability of the Western Balkans depends on its full European integration.
Interlocutors shared mutual views and expectations that firm bilateral cooperation between the two parliaments at the level of parliamentary groups for cooperation will continue in the future, whereat MPs from the two parliaments will have the opportunity to closely exchange views and experiences of parliamentary work, international policy and other issues. sk/13:25
