US reaffirms support of Macedonia

Riga, 19 June 2017 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi on the sidelines of his participation at the 8th Parliamentary Intelligence Security Forum in Riga met Monday with Robert Pittenger, who is the US Congressman and chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare and initiator of the forum, Parliament’s Press Office said in a press release.

Interlocutors exchanged views on issues related to ensuring the safety in the region, fight against terrorism and cyber-crime and the need of cyber defence strategy.

Xhaferi informed that Macedonia in close cooperation with US, EU and NATO is in process of preparation of cyber defence strategy, which will strengthen the capacity of the national security. He underlined the readiness of the Macedonian Parliament to host Parliamentary Security Forum in the following years thus enabling MPs, government officials and experts to share experiences in all spheres of security challenges.

They also shared mutual opinions that bilateral cooperation between the Macedonian Parliament and the US Congress will continue in a friendly and constructive manner. The US support of Macedonia’s NATO integration was reaffirmed in this context. sk/14:32
