"Jugohrom" to restart in May-June 2018, MoU signed

"Jugohrom" to restart in May-June 2018, MoU signed

Skopje, 12 October 2017 (MIA) - Jugohrom Ferroalloys plant will be restarted by the end of May or the beginning of June 2018, following the installation of de-dusting filters in furnaces 7 and 8.

Vice Premier for Economic Affairs Koco Angjusev signed Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding with Jugohrom manager Vasko Skenderovski and Jugohrom trade union president Bajram Amiti, aimed at securing the plant's future.

"The plant will be restarted, the owner will invest in the de-dusting system through installation of filters, the Government is obliged to accelerate administrative procedures, while employees gain security over their jobs", said Angjusev.

Manager Skenderovski voiced assurance that Jugohrom would not operate unless there are filters in place, saying they would be installed in stages.

Trade union representative Amiti said the Government would find mechanisms to put pressure on the Jugohrom management to realize the investment in the de-dusting system, worth EUR 12 million, of which EUR 4,5 million for furnaces 7 and 8.

Jugohrom halted its production on 2 November 2016, leaving about 800 employees jobless. The management decided to implement the decision of the Environmental Inspectorate over the plant's closure due to violation of the final deadline for construction of a filtering station that had expired on 30 October 2016. ik/12:54
