Skopje, 12 October 2017 (MIA) - Slovakian Ambassador to Macedonia Martin Bezak paid Thursday a farewell visit to Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
Xhaferi extended gratitude for Slovakian support of Macedonia's efforts to deal with the migrant crisis, the Parliament said in a press release.
'Slovakia, as other countries of the Visegrad Group recognized the seriousness of the crisis and offered appropriate assistance for alleviating the consequences, as Macedonia was guarding the European borders,' Xhaferi told Bezak.
He also thanked Slovakia on its support of Macedonia's bid to join the European Union and NATO, the press release reads.
Slovakia, Bezak said, is Macedonia's sincere partner on bilateral, multilateral level, and will keep supporting the country's integration with the Euro-Atlantic organizations.
In this respect he notified that Macedonia could count on UN support, as Slovakian diplomat Miroslav Lajcak is now President of the General Assembly.
Bezak also announced that next year Slovakia would also take over the Visegrad Group Presidency, and in 2018 the OSCE Chairmanship.
Furthermore, he announced a launch of the National Convention on the EU - a platform for participation and monitoring the negotiation process with the EU, which up to date has been successfully implemented in the Western Balkan countries, except in Macedonia and Kosovo. lk/16:57
