Sofia, 17 November 2017 (MIA) - We are not just friends with Bulgaria, but we have also become allies, Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said in the interview with the Bulgarian National Television - BTV.
Macedonia has won with the neighborhood treaty with Bulgaria and has lost nothing, we speak in a language that we understand, only together we can help each other and move forward, Zaev said.
He also said that the Treaty on Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation with Bulgaria will be ratified by year-end.
Zaev expressed firm support for the construction of Corridor 8.
We need economic connectivity from Durres through Skopje to Bulgaria, Zaev said.
In regard to the historical issues that affect the two countries, Zaev said that “Bulgarian fascist occupier” is no longer written in the textbooks and that the Macedonian society condemned the demolition of the monument on the Macedonian peak of Kaymakchalan, because it caused suffering among the Bulgarians.
The people of our common history should connect us. Quarrels do not bring perspective, but bring only bad. Macedonia and Bulgaria are sincere friends and need to build this friendship, Zaev said.
He hoped that the political crisis that has hit the country in recent years when there is no freedom, and many innocent people have been sent to prisons, will never be repeated again in the Republic of Macedonia.
We want to look forward to the future, not to go back, Zaev said.
He also expressed his stance on the long-standing name dispute with Greece.
I am a politician who wants to solve the problem with Greece over the name. Probably both sides will have to make compromises, Zaev underlined in the interview with BTV. sk/10:40
