Zaev: We need to work on people's unity, time of centre-left is coming

Zaev: We need to work on people

Skopje, 18 November 2017 (MIA) - Europe needs the centre-left parties, especially in a time when the centre-right has radicalized in certain countries, promoting quasi-patriotic ideas under the veil of modern robbery, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev told plenary session "Towards Renewal of the Left in Southeast Europe", held in Sarajevo on Friday.

He said debates are not sufficient, but action is required towards sharing the Macedonian experience, where citizens supported the left that has united with the civil society.

"The main recipe of our success is to unite, regardless of our benefits, for the sake of the citizens, the future, the homeland. Project 'Truth about Macedonia' motivated citizens to unite. This project unveiled the crimes of the former authorities. We built the coalition "Citizens for Macedonia". This was followed by the Freedom Camp, the Colored Revolution, citizens led the way. The feeling of entering a coalition with politically independent people should be nurtured if we want to maintain our independence. The government is controlled from the inside, from the civil sector. Democracy and freedom are not given once and for all times, they should develop and this is the best way to do this", said PM Zaev.

He referred to the country's policies in the coming period, saying they would rely on four pillars: law valid for everyone, one society for all, bringing money back to citizens, and building friendships with neighbors and the region.

Zaev said the radicalized centre-right won only in cases when those who disagree are not united.

"Leadership is important, but courage is also important. Bold steps need to be undertaken. The one who speaks courageously about important issues will emerge as leader. The citizens' future is more important than nationalism", added the PM.

The plenary session was held within conference "SEE "Democratic Left 18", organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Sarajevo. ik/12:14
