Sarajevo, 17 December 2017 (MIA) - Member of European Parliament (MEP) Tanja Fajon says that lack of agreement within Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), the state's complex structure and the absence of sincere will by leaders slow down the country's EU path, FENA reports.
Fajon says BiH is often the weakest link in the Western Balkans chain on the road to the Union.
"I would like 2018 to be the year when BiH gets the candidate status, but this lies solely in the hands of the country's leaders," stresses the Slovenian MEP.
She says there is a 'pleasant climate' within the EU for the Western Balkans' enlargement and everyone is eagerly expecting the Enlargement Strategy in February.
"The Juncker commission clearly stated at the beginning of its five-year term there would be no enlargement in this period, but now there are clear messages that Brussels expects countries of the Western Balkans to join in the near future," says Fajon.
She adds that the EU is extending its arms to the region and now is the turn of countries in the area to produce concrete results in the reform process, "seize the moment and show they really want to join the EU." ik/14:29
