Skopje, 20 December 2017 (MIA) - Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and Albania's President Ilir Meta expressed satisfaction Wednesday in Tirana with the excellent bilateral relations, as well as readiness for their further development.
Albania, as NATO member, is a staunch supporter of Macedonia's bid to become a full-fledge member of this security organization and implementing of reforms, advancing the relations with its neighbors - vital for the stability of the country and the region - should be its priority in the upcoming period, Meta said.
In this respect, Xhaferi briefed Meta on the political developments in Macedonia, notifying that the country has been working on building a genuine civic society, implementing the key reforms for the EU, NATO membership and advancing the relations with its neighbors. In this respect Xahferi mentioned the successful joint session of the Macedonian and Albanian governments, Macedonia-Bulgaria friendship treaty and the more frequent Skopje-Athens communication.
Beneficial political climate has been created for settling of significant issues, which is in favor of the region's aspirations to join the European family, Xhaferi and Meta concluded.
They also tackled the possibilities for advancing the rights of the ethnic communities in both countries, with Xhaferi commending Albania's new law on minorities, which recognizes eight national minorities, including the Macedonian. lk/18:28
