Skopje, 7 February 2018 (MIA) - New law on sports, ten-year strategy for sports development in Macedonia, Home of Sports, more funds for existing and new athletes and amateurs, new gym and sports curricula were tackled at Wednesday's meeting of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and the Youth and Sports Agency director Darko Kaevski with representatives of sports federations, associations, and sponsors.
PM Zaev said the discussion focused on development of sports in Macedonia, urging political parties to distance themselves from sports.
"Systemic support to sports by the state is key in the achievement of excellent results and a good life for athletes," said Zaev.
According to him, the laws on sports, sponsorship and donations are to be drafted by September.
"Politics should be distanced from sport. All political parties represented here today were here to support sport," added Zaev.
He stressed that a new Home of Sports was discussed at the meeting.
"The site has already been identified. The state and the Macedonian Olympic Committee will allocate the required funds. All 32 sports federations will have their administrative offices there, a meeting room, hospitality facilities and other content. I believe this is possible and the construction can begin this year," said Zaev.
He said sports halls across the country would be transferred under the jurisdiction of municipalities and the Youth and Sports Agency, while several halls will be managed by some federations.
Agency director Darko Kaevski said their key priorities were small local pools, an olympic programme, rewarding of 250 best youth clubs in order to motivate youth categories.
Small pools will be constructed within the school sports halls, with one gym class dedicated to swimming. ik/16:36
