Skopje, 19 February 2018 (MIA) - TV journalist Ivona Talevska on Monday was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges in a case opened by the Special Public Prosecution (SPO).

A court also ordered her to pay back tax money in a period of one year. She should pay taxes estimated at nearly MKD 1,7 million (EUR 27,000) throughout the year and to pay a fine of EUR 1,000.

Additionally, being a representative of a company, Talevska should pay back MKD 1,146,000 in taxes within a year.

The company dubbed Smart, in turn, should pay a fine of MKD 200,000 within 30 days and taxes that had been evaded for a period of one year.

The sentencing came after the Macedonian TV journalist pleaded guilty.

"I admit the guilt for the actions cited in the SPO indictment," said Talevska.

The defense asked the court to take into consideration Talevska's admission, as well as the fact that she is a Macedonian citizen, a full-time employee in Sitel TV station, has family in Macedonia and no prior criminal record.

The SPO case codenamed Tifani focuses on tax evasion, in which the owner of companies Smart Centar DOOEL and Smart Klub DOOEL Skopje,Ivona Talevska, evaded the payment of taxes in period 2008-2014 in the amount of EUR 37,634 for the legal entity and EUR 16,924 for herself. ba/ik/19:09
