Skopje, 28 February 2018 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi expects a solution over the 35,000 amendments that opposition VMRO-DPMNE has filed regarding the Law on the Use of Languages.
"I am in continual communication with MP groups, including VMRO-DPMNE. I believe we are close to a solution," Xhaferi told reporters on Wednesday.
According to him, the objective is to avoid obstruction of the Parliament's work, saying the opening of a debate on the amendments would make the institution ineffective.
The language law was also on the agenda of the meetings with the visiting Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Ivo Vajgl, Knut Fleckenstein and Eduard Kukan, who are the initiators of talks within the Jean Monnet Process.
The first meeting is expected on March 15, but it could be delayed until May if Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and experts cannot attend.
In addition, Speaker Xhaferi voiced belief that the opposition could soon return to the Parliament. ik/11:29
