PM Zaev meets NDI president Wollac

Skopje, 5 October 2017 (MIA) - Prime Minister Zoran Zaev extended gratitude to the National Democratic Institute (NDI) on its support of Macedonia, especially in regard to advancing the Parliament's functioning and the civic society development.

Zaev had a meeting Thursday with NDI president Kenneth Wollac, also attended by Defense and Information Society, Administration  Ministers, Radmila Sekerisnka and Damjan Mancevski respectively, as well as NDI Regional Director for CEE Programs - Robert Benjamin and resident senior director in Macedonia Chris Henshaw.

Wollac extended congratulations on the formation of new government and readiness for NDI's cooperation with Macedonia's state institutions and NGOs to resume.

Responding to Wollac's comment that 'a new political oxygen may now be felt in the country', Zaev said it was a result of the government's efforts to foster the participation all stakeholders in the society in the political processes. In addition to the NGOs, the functioning of the parliament and opposition's participation in making decision to matters of citizens' interests is particularly important, Zaev said.

'We need NDI support for strengthening the capacity and role of the Parliament, as a venue for discussing all important and hot matters for Macedonia and its citizens,' Zaev said.

Zaev also accepted Wollac's offer for NDI to take part in organizing meetings of the Premier and other ministers with US officials, saying that such encounters 'are rather important, especially ahead of the expected outcome of Macedonia's NATO membership bid and the process for settling the single dispute on that road - the name issue with Greece. lk/18:28
