Skopje, 7 December 2017 (MIA) - In honor of the national holiday 'St. Clement of Ohrid - Dec. 8, the Macedonian Orthodox Church organized Thursday a formal academy under the Prime Minister's auspices in the Macedonian National Theatre (MNT).
Public welfare should be a dignified guideline for every human being, while the activities to that effect is the measure of people's spiritual development, PM Zaev said, pointing out that future generation may built upon the good deeds of their predecessors.
St. Clement of Ohrid was one of the closest, the most diligent collaborators in the Ss. Cyril and Methodius's educational mission in Moravia.
'He endured hardships but believed in the good and remained faithful to his task to resume the work of his teachers by advancing the Slavic education,' Zaev said, adding that St.Clement of Ohrid would be always remembered as the founder of the Ohrid Literary School, frequently regarded as the first Balkan and European University.
Paying respect to the achievements of ', the PM said that by nourishing spirituality 'we become better people in a better, harmonized, educated world.'
That is how we can build the present and the future for everybody, overcome the ever-present challenges and protect the identity values as citizens, nation and state, Zaev said, He expressed belief that the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the Ohrid Archdiocese in the name of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC) would create possibilities for MOC, which is a reality in the Orthodox world, to overcome its protracted challenges.
Archbishop Stefan also addressed the event, crowned with a concert of the Macedonian Philharmonic Stringed Quartet.
Clement of Ohrid, together with Naum of Ohrid, was the most prominent student of the founders of the Slavic alphabet, Cyril and Methodius, and the most trusted scholar who resumed their mission as enlighteners. Many churches, schools, associations and institutions in Macedonia are named after him. As of 2007, St. Clement of Ohrid Day (Dec. 8) is a national holiday in Macedonia. lk/21:21
