Skopje, 8 March 2018 (MIA) – Government is looking for ways to motivate expats to invest in Macedonia. In addition to resources allocated by the Draft Law on investment financing, new incentives are considered within the Law or within the Economic Growth Plan, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said Thursday.
"We are exploring ways to also give support to citizens who work abroad," the Minister said after meeting members of the Economic Chamber of Northwestern Macedonia (ECNM).
"We would like to motivate them to come back to Macedonia and set up businesses here."
He asked Parliament to adopt the Law on investment financing after Government passes the bill next Tuesday.
"The Law can be adopted by 61 votes, but I am asking all 120 MPs to vote in favor of it," Bekteshi said.
Ministry of Economy's budget, he added, amounts to more than MKD 36 million, most of which is allocated for the Fund for Innovations to support businesses.
Businessmen attending the meeting welcomed the support of the Government and said that the resources should be sufficient if they are assigned correctly.
"Transparency is key," said ECNM President Nebi Hoxha, who pointed out that businesses in rural areas would need the support the most, as would businesses set up by women.
Minister Bekteshi added that an open call was launched today to offer subsidies to female entrepreneurs. mr/13:04
