Skopje, 18 January 2018 (MIA) - Expectation of a positive outcome from the forthcoming NATO Summit in July 2018 and gratitude for the continuous support to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Macedonia was expressed by Foreign MInister Nikola Dimitrov Thursday in a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The NATO chief's visit to the Republic of Macedonia is of crucial importance representing a strong encouragement of our efforts to make 2018 a historic year both for the country and the region, FM Dimitrov said according to a press release of the Foreign Ministry (MoFA).
Dimitrov, it added, informed about the proactive engagement of Macedonia in fulfilling its foreign policy priorities - securing a NATO membership invitation and a date for start of EU accession talks.
At the same time, he reaffirmed the determination and political will of the government to conduct reform processes on time and in an efficient manner and to improve neighboring relations and regional cooperation.
"For Macedonia, a membership into NATO means stability for the country and for the region as well," stated the Macedonian Minister.
NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg reaffirmed the open door policy of the Alliance and said he was impressed by the democratic progress in the country all the while expressing support for the reform processes of the government. At the same time, Stoltenberg urged the country to seize the positive momentum in order to fulfill its Euro-Atlantic ambition, stated the press release. ba/15:51
