Dimitov-Hahn meeting focused on EU's Enlargement Strategy

Dimitov-Hahn meeting focused on EU

Davos, 26 January 2018 (MIA) - The upcoming Enlargement Strategy of the EU was the focal point of Friday's meeting of Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov and the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, held on the sidelines of the 48th World Economic Forum in Davos.

Minister Dimitrov reiterated the expectations that the Strategy would reflect Macedonia's progress in reform implementation and good neighborly relations, which could contribute to an additional incentive to realize a realistic and viable European perspective, the Foreign Ministry (MoFA) said in a press release.

The interlocutors also discussed the next steps Macedonia was required to take to integrate into the Union as well as the common European future of all countries in the region.

FM Dimitrov on the sidelines of the forum in an informal conversation with Bulgarian PM Boyko Borissov and former British PM Tony Blair spoke about the European future of Macedonia and concrete measures needed to be taken to improve road and railway infrastructure along Corridor 8.

Furthermore, Dimitrov urged Macedonia's candidate country status (acquired in 2005 during the UK's presidency with the EU) to be effectuated as soon as possible by a decision on the launch of accession negotiations, stated the press release.

The Macedonian Foreign Minister will conclude his visit to Davos after a meeting with Jeffrey Feltman, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs. ba/15:50
