Skopje, 6 March 2018 (MIA) - The government on Tuesday named the Deputy PM for European affairs, Bujar Osmani, as coordinator of the six flagship initiatives of the European Commission's Western Balkans Strategy.
"Although the Strategy is still being reviewed by the bodies of the Council and the EU members, the government has estimated that it is important the implementation of activities planned under the flagship initiatives started on time," says the Secretariat for European Affairs (SEA).
The government has also appointed sectorial coordinators for each of the flagship initiatives: Justice Minister Bilen Saliji - coordinator of the initiative to strengthen the rule of law; Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski - coordinator of the initiative to reinforce engagement on security and migration; Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi - coordinator of the initiative to enhance support for socio-economic development; Deputy PM for economic affairs Koco Angjusev - coordinator of the initiative to increase transport and energy connectivity within the region and within the EU.
Also, Minister of Information Society and Administration Damjan Mancevski was appointed as coordinator of the initiative for a digital agenda for the Western Balkans, Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov was named coordinator of the initiative to support reconciliation and good neighborly relations.
The government has tasked Deputy PM Osmani with organizing the first constitutional meeting by the end of March to define the teams of experts, their scope, the way they will function and inform each other, according to SEA.
On Feb. 6, the European Commission adopted the new strategy for a credible enlargement perspective for and enhanced EU engagement with the Western Balkans. Also, the EC announced six flagship initiatives that constitute specific actions that the EU will take over the next years to support the transformation efforts of the Western Balkans in areas of mutual interest. ba/19:49
