Los Angeles, 17 February 2017 (MIA) - New photos show Marilyn Monroe may have been secretly pregnant and not by her husband, Metro reads.
Photos showing the Some Like It Hot star seemingly with a pregnancy bump were sold at an auction in Hollywood in November last year.
The pictures were taken by Frieda Hull, a photographer who worked for Pan Am and became close to the star after being part of a Monroe fan group.
The shots were taken in July 1960 outside Fox Studios in New York after Monroe had completed her costume and hair tests for the film The Misfits, the star was 34 years old.
Last year the photos were sold as part of Hull’s estate but only fetched $2,240 (£1700) at auction and little notice was taken of them until the MailOnline published them.
If the 50s icon was indeed pregnant, she kept it seccret up until her death in 1962.
It is thought that the father of the child would have been Italian-French actor Yves Montand and not her husband Arthur Miller.
The Niagara star had an affair with Montand after meeting him on the set of the film Let’s Make Love.
Marilyn and the married actor met when filming for the musical began in February 1960 and their affair began shortly afterwards.
Hull got to know the Seven Year Itch star after being part of the Monroe Six, a group of six fans who would hang around outside the star’s hotel when she stayed in New York City.
Hull claimed that the photos, which she dubbed the ‘pregnant slides’, were proof that the star was pregnant at the time.
Tony Michaels, 56, who bought the colour photos at the Marilyn Memorabilia Auction held by Julien’s Auctions in LA last November, was a close friend of Hull.
He told the MailOnline that the photographer had told him about Monroe’s secret pregnancy.
He said: ‘Frieda was very proud of those slides and she was very proud to keep them a secret until the day she died. But she told me the story behind them, that Marilyn got pregnant by Yves Montand.
‘It wasn’t a guess or a presumption, it was something she knew for sure, she was very close to Marilyn.’
Michaels said the actress and model kept her pregnancy secret and then tragically lost the child during a hospital visit.
Prior to this pregnancy the star had had three very public miscarriages.
New Yorker, Frieda, died of natural causes in 2014 at the age of 83.
Last summer the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes star would have celebrated her 90th birthday. sk/11:27
