Vettel: Tough to beat Mercedes

Sao Paulo, 11 November 2017 (MIA) - Having claimed the 1-2 in Friday’s practices for the Brazilian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel concedes it will be “tough” for Ferrari to beat Mercedes this weekend.

Having lost the World title to Lewis Hamilton last time out in Mexico, Vettel is now locked in a battle with his team-mate Valtteri Bottas over second place in the standings.

The Ferrari driver is 15 points ahead of the Finn, however, it was Mercedes who had the pace at the Interlagos circuit on Friday.

Hamilton was quickest of all ahead of Bottas while Vettel finished the afternoon in fourth place, 0.360s off the pace.

As such the Ferrari driver acknowledges that it won’t be easy getting the upper hand on Mercedes this weekend.

“Mercedes looked very strong so I think they are a bit ahead, both of them, then I think it is very close between us and Red Bull,” he said.

“I like driving it was nice to get in a lot of laps today, more quiet on track than off track.

“We’ll see what we get tomorrow but I think we can fine-tune the balance which will help us.

“As I said it will be tough to beat Mercedes as they look very quick in all conditions so let’s see.” sk/12:30
