Government wasn't informed on bonuses of SEC members: spokesman

Skopje, 6 December 2017 (MIA) - The government, including the Ministry of Finance, had no information on bonuses being awarded to member of the State Election Commission (SEC), according to Mile Boshnjakovski.

"The SEC is an independent body, and every beneficiary of the national budget itself is responsible to allocate funds within its budget. However, it's important to emphasize that neither the Ministry of Finance, nor the government of Macedonia had any information about the bonuses," stated the government spokesman.

The government, he added, many times has said that cuts must be made to unproductive expenditures and that such examples should be prevented in the future.

On Tuesday, the SEC held a session in which its members had decided to either give back or donate four salaries they awarded themselves as a bonus for the recent local elections.

The bonus for SEC members, administration service and other persons engaged in the election process is awarded in line with the Article 19 of the Electoral Code and SEC's Rules of Procedure, SEC said. They also notified long working hours, namely full engagement during holidays and weekends. ba/16:28
