U.S. congressmen support Macedonia's NATO membership

U.S. congressmen support Macedonia

Skopje, 5 February 2015 (MIA) - Macedonia belongs to NATO. The country is a responsible member of the international community and provides help when necessary. Macedonian soldiers are true professionals, skilled and motivated peacekeepers praised by all, said United States Congressman Paul Cook at a meeting with Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski in Washington.

Congressman Cook strongly supports Macedonia's NATO integration, with a similar stance shared by a number of his House colleagues.

Minister Jolevski said Macedonia is a serious ally and contributor to global peace and security.

"Our strategic goal is clear - full-fledged NATO and EU membership. It is a fact confirmed by the Alliance that Macedonia and its army have been prepared to join NATO since 2008", he said at the meeting.

Jolevski stressed that Macedonia remained committed to international peacekeeping operations and development of its armed forces.

Jolevski also met with congressmen Ted Poe and Robert Aderholt, referring to the defense system and the need for development of the education aspect.

In addition, Minister Jolevski met with The Heritage Foundation president Jim DeMint, who voiced support to Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic integration.

DeMint highlighted Macedonia's progress at the index of economic freedom.

"Macedonia is a regional leader regarding economic policies, which can be seen by the country's economic development", stressed DeMint.

DM Jolevski is set to attend the traditional Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, followed by meetings with a number of senators, as well as Hoyt Brian Yee, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs. ik/11:03
