Vucic and Thaci agree to work on new phase of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue

Vucic and Thaci agree to work on new phase of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue

Brussels, 3 July 2017 (MIA) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini hosted Monday in Brussels an informal meeting with the Presidents Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia and Hashim Thaci of Kosovo.

"They agreed to work on starting a new phase of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina for normalisation of relations and reconciliation, and they decided that the respective teams will start working on preparations. They also stressed the importance of the implementation of the agreements reached in the dialogue without delay", the European External Action Service said in a press release.

The High Representative confirmed the commitment of the EU for the European perspective of the whole Western Balkans.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said after meeting that a resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and implementation of existing agreements had been agreed.

"Establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities goes without saying, there will be no further negotiations on that," Vucic told reporters.

He said that it would take a month and a half to prepare for the continuation of the dialogue.

Vucic did not rule out the possibility that the dialogue could continue at the presidential level, and added that it was "necessary to talk about future relations more seriously and bravely."

Kosovo President Thaci said the new phase of the dialogue should lead to normalization and reconciliation benefiting both nations and the region in general.

"I am convinced it is possible to have reconciliation between Serbs and Albanians. This is in the interest of Kosovo, Serbia and the entire region. Kosovo will be fully committed to the this and conduct responsibly", added Thaci. ik/13:36
