Macedonia and Kosovo have no open issues, say Zaev and Thaci

Skopje, 12 December 2017 (MIA) - Prime Minister Zoran Zaev after meeting Tuesday with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said fresh opportunities were being opened to further improve relations between the two countries. Macedonia and Kosovo have no outstanding issues, he stressed.

"We held talks as leaders of two countries that have no open issues. We were strongly encouraged by President Thaci to achieve what PM Haradinaj and I have agreed - to launch fresh opportunities to further improve and strengthen our mutual ties," Zaev told a news conference after his meeting with Thaci in Pristina.

After listening to the businessmen of the two countries, he said, their suggestions are paving the way for new jobs, which is very important for young people. "We will make all efforts possible to facilitate businesses by cutting border and customs procedures," Zaev stated.

According to him, the interlocutors concluded that solid perspectives were being opened regarding the strategic goals of the two countries with respect to their common Euro-Atlantic ambitions during Austria and Bulgaria's presidency with the Council of the EU.

"We will encourage each other and help each other in the process as regards our open issues - Macedonia's dispute with Greece and Kosovo's dispute with Montenegro. We've both agreed to send a message to the citizens of the two countries, in Macedonia and Kosovo, to continue to nourish and enhance the friendship between the two countries," PM Zaev said.

Zaev's meeting with Thaci wrapped up his day-long official visit to Kosovo. ba/19:11
