Skopje, 13 February 2018 (MIA) - Numerous international studies show that an increasing number of students and young people believe that digital technologies have a positive effect on their education, they make the educational process easier as well as the accessibility to books. As young people in Macedonia are also affected by this trend, digitization is accelerated in the educational process, including the opening of digital centers in libraries and at faculties.
This was the message conveyed by Tuesday's panel discussion dubbed StartSmart on the importance of digitization in education in Macedonia, held at the St. Clement of Ohrid National Library in Skopje.
Also, a campaign was launched regarding the opening of a StartSmart Multimedia Center at the National Library. The campaign is supported by the company Nestle by singling out a segment of profits from the sale of NESCAFÉ 3 in 1 and 2 in 1 products.
Through the campaign, young and talented people will be provided with a modern and comfortable place to study, hang out and advance, which will in turn also help them find job opportunities.
"We started digitizing books in order to put at disposal to the members, especially the young, all that we are keeping in our libraries. Nowadays, they have different needs for using the services of the library. Modern libraries should follow digital technologies and the new era," said Marko Cuculovski, official of the National Library.
According to him, digitization is particularly important because it opens an access to books and documents that are rare and considered cultural heritage and as such cannot be taken out of the library. ba/14:32
