Skopje, 16 February 2018 (MIA) - Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Vice Premier for Economic Affairs Koco Angjusev met late Thursday with a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Charlotte Ruhe, Managing Director for Central and South Eastern Europe.
The EBRD delegation said the European Commission decision to give Macedonia a recommendation for the start of accession talks based on fulfilled criteria is a proof that the country is moving on the right path and a sign for the bank to intensify bilateral cooperation, the Government said in a press release.
In this stage, cooperation primarily refers to EBRD's support to Corridor VIII projects, such as the motorway section from Kriva Palanka to the Bulgarian border and the credit line for overhaul of 400km-long road infrastructure.
Following the release of the EU Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkans, EBRD will focus on defining projects in the fields of networking, competitiveness support, environment protection, energy efficiency and renewable energies, which have been noted in the document.
PM Zaev urged EBRD to recognize the Corridor VIII priorities, including railway section from Kicevo to Albania's Lin, thus practically linking the Durres port to Istanbul via Bulgaria.
Vice Premier Angjusev briefed the EBRD officials on projects for power plants using renewable energy sources, such as wind parks and solar plants, the gas distribution and the transport infrastructure.
The EBRD delegation voiced preparedness to commit to these projects, including the support to the Corridor VIII railway section.
EBRD will soon extend the favorable credit line supporting private sector competitiveness with additional EUR 30 million, while Zaev urged the bank to draft a new line for procurement of equipment by SMEs towards increased efficiency and competitiveness of Macedonian products in the EU, reads the press release. ik/09:17
