"Toplik" hearing adjourned for March 30

Skopje, 8 March 2018 (MIA) – The Special Prosecutor Office "Toplik" case hearing scheduled for today was adjourned for March 30.

The hearing was adjourned for medical reasons. Defendant Dimitar Dimovski's lawyer submitted a doctor's note confirming his client's illness.

In the "Toplik" case, Former Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski is charged together with five other persons with illegal activities over the sale of land in Sopiste near Skopje.

During the last hearing, the defense lawyers objected to evidence collected by SPO saying that the expert who produced the documents was currently Director of the Agency for Real Estate Cadastre and his daughter was an SPO employee. The lawyers said the experts were biased.

The prosecution said the request of the defense was unfounded and asked the Court to overrule the objection.

Judge Osman Shabani said the defense and the prosecution would be notified by mail about the decision whether the experts would be replaced.

Former Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski is the primary defendant in the case. He is charged with establishing a Commission for public bidding, which he ordered to select a bidder for the purchase of state-owned land for the construction of the "Soncev grad" elite residential complex in Sopiste municipality, although the bidding company did not meet the required criteria.

According to SPO evidence, upon termination of the contract, the Ministry pledged to pay EUR 1 million in debt and interest to the legal entity "Sun City". mr/11:11
