Skopje, 13 June 2018 (MIA) - Minister of Communications, Accountability and Transparency Robert Popovski and British Ambassador Charles Garrett signed Wednesday a memorandum of cooperation over support in the drafting and implementation of a Communications Strategy of the Macedonian Government.
Minister Popovski said the memorandum contributes to building high standards and best practices and experiences in communications, transparency and accountability of the Government's work.
"This memo is a step forward towards a better, more responsible and essential communication of the Government and its activities, benefiting the citizens of our country," said Popovski.
According to him, it is in the citizens' interest to have increased and precise insight into the Government's spending, policy creation and realization of promised objectives.
Ambassador Garrett highlighted the importance of good communication among the government, citizens and organizations, aimed at explaining the Government's policies and activities, as well as transfer of information where required.
"In addition, governments should fulfill their responsibilities regarding transparency. The government exists to serve the citizens' interests. The money it spends come directly from the people's pockets and that is why the government is obliged to be clear and open regarding its operations and the way in which funds are spent," added Garrett. ik/17:20
