Rome, 14 May 2018 (MIA) – Russian tennis champion Maria Sharapova caused quite a storm on Monday with a controversial post she made on her official social media account. She said she was nervous to be on the court with Rafael Nadal, calling him the 'GOAT' (Greatest Of All Time).
The duo was practicing on a clay court in Rome ahead of the Italian Open.
According to the Daily Mail, Sharapova came out on top in the brief exchange, with Nadal missing the baseline with his final return.
In footage of the rally, Sharapova could be seen beaming at the end before saying aloud through heavy breaths: 'That's it, I'm done!'
The 31-year-old later uploaded footage of the play for her 8.7million Twitter followers to enjoy, with the caption: "Two minutes on court with the GOAT @RafaelNadal #BucketList Was so nervous."
While there's hardly any doubt that Nadal, a ten-time French Open champion, is the best player ever on the red dirt, Roger Federer fans were not too pleased with Sharapova's choice of GOAT.
The Russian is playing Ashleigh Barty in the Italian Open round of 64 on Tuesday. mr/16:17
