Handball: Vardar beats Montpellier, Metalurg loses to Sporting

Montpellier, 16 September 2018 (MIA) - Macedonian handball champions Vardar beat Montpellier 27:24 in the first round of the Champions League group stage on Saturday.

Vardar led for most of the match against the hosts, who are the current European champions.

Vuko Borozan was Vardar's best player with eight goals, followed by Cupic with six, while goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev had 16 saves.

Macedonia's other representative Metalurg lost away to Portugal's Sporting 34:26.

Despite drawing at halftime (13:13), the Skopje outfit failed to keep up the tempo in the second half.

Mario Tankoski led the team with six goals, followed by Martin Serafimov with five. ik/09:58
