Observance of International Women’s Day

Observance of International Women’s Day

Skopje, 8 March 2018 (MIA) - International Women's Day-March 8 is observed in Macedonia on Thursday, marking the woman's struggle for economic, political and social equality.

On the occasion, Gender Equality Platform organises Human Rights March, which will start from Park Woman through Macedonia Square, the Stone Bridge, and will end at Philip II Square.

Moreover, Ministry of Defence organises a panel discussion “Gender Perspective in Defence” which will be held in the Military Museum in Skopje.

Also, the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Macedonia is to join the Campaign to Prevent Gender-Based Violence and organises an event on which the printed material will be distributed.

Tonight's Philharmonic Orchestra concert "Women’s Stories" will feature Russian-born German pianist Olga Scheps and will be conducted by internationally acclaimed Macedonian conductor Elena Mitrevska.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. sk/10:08
