Skopje, 7 March 2018 (MIA) - Political parties failed to reach an agreement for the 35,000 amendments to the Law on the Use of Languages and have been given a week to solve the impasse.
Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said late Tuesday the scheduled session did not take place because some of SDSM MPs had claimed they would not vote for the law.
Xhaferi told TV station Alsat he was prepared to schedule another session for a straightforward vote on the Law on Use of Languages, bypassing the discussion on the 35,000 amendments filed by VMRO-DPMNE, adding that the Parliament should not be held hostage by anyone.
He has given parties a week to find a solution, because the options he had at disposal as Speaker have been exhausted.
Despite misunderstandings over the treatment of the law amendments, Xhaferi says the ruling coalition is not in jeopardy.
VMRO-DPMNE says they were asked yesterday to withdraw the amendments, a proposal they rejected, while SDSM claims they favor a solution that complies with the Rules of Procedures. ik/10:38
