Athens, 7 March 2018 (MIA) - The best way to reach a solution in the Macedonian issue is to complete the 1995 Interim Treaty by an international agreement having supra-constitutional power, says European Parliament Vice President Dimitrios Papadimoulis, who is also chief of the SYRIZA group in the EP, MIA reports from Athens.
"The best way is to use the model of an international agreement having supra-constitutional power, providing international guarantees, such as the Treaty of Lausanne. It should include, first, a mutually acceptable compound name for all uses, and second, abandonment of any type of irredentism, replacing it by a friendship treaty between the two countries, based on the inviolability of existing borders. This international agreement would be guaranteed and signed by the European Union, the United Nations etc," Papadimoulis told Greek radio 24/7.
Regarding the negotiations, he believes there should be more talks and less interviews.
"I believe that negotiations should intensify at the level of foreign ministers, even PMs if required, but with less interviews. Negotiations through interviews are less effective than well-prepared bilateral talks on the table," notes Papadimoulis. ik/14:05
