Italy's Confindustria opens Macedonia office

Skopje, 22 November 2017 (MIA) - The General Confederation of Italian Industry (Confindustria) promoted Wednesday its office opened in Macedonia.

Confindustria is the Italian employers' federation and national chamber of commerce.

Marco Marconi, head of Confindustria Macedonia, said the office was inaugurated in order to serve as an address for all Italian entrepreneurs seeking business partners in Macedonia.

"Our goal is to assist Macedonian and Italian entrepreneurs and help promote activities of our members," stated Marconi.

Confindustria is comprised of 150,000 members that employ 5.4 million people. Its main office is located in Rome in addition to having a permanent seat in Brussels since 1958 with the purpose of representing Italian companies before EU institutions.

"The time has come to set up an association for Italian enterprises that are present in Macedonia. Here, there are 130 companies with Italian capital and of those, 40 companies are active. In 2016, Italy was ranked 13th according to the number of investments in the country estimated at EUR 107.6 million," said Italy's Ambassador to Macedonia Carlo Romeo.

Italy is an important trade partner of Macedonia, according to Deputy PM for economic affairs Koco Angjusev. In the first nine months of 2017, goods have been traded in amount of EUR 367 million, thus ranking Italy in the top six in terms of economic cooperation.

"The government is committed to increasing cooperation with companies from developed countries, and undoubtedly Italy is one of those. I hope economic cooperation in the years to come will rise to reach two-digit figures," Angjusev said. ba/15:33
