Skopje, 26 January 2018 (MIA) - The meeting between Prime Minister of Macedonia and Greece is very significant inter alia for the progress of Macedonia's EU-integration processes, making the expectations for 2018 to be a historic one for the country rather tangible.
This is a conclusion of the meeting of the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, and Macedonia's Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, which took place on Friday at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Zaev briefed Hahn about the outcome of his meeting with Greek PM Alexisis Tsipras, saying that it is a step forward for the negotiations between the two countries on settling the problem Greece has been having with Macedonia's constitutional name. Furthermore it offers opportunities for advancing the bilateral relations.
The meeting is also significant for encouraging the ongoing, sustainable reforms in Macedonia and confirms the government's political will to settle the long-standing issues with the neighboring countries, boost the regional cooperation and be a credible partner to the international friends, Zaev told Hahn.
Hahn reiterated his Twitter comment on Zaev-Tsipras meeting, namely that the encounter 'is a very good news and shows courage, vision and statesmanship'.
'Solving this long-standing issue will be good for the countries, the region and Europe,' Hahn wrote on his Twitter account. lk/15:53
