Skopje, 4 April 2018 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje Nina Suomalainen discussed Wednesday about ongoing reforms, political situation and Macedonia’s efforts to join the European Union and NATO, the government said in a press release.
Zaev and Suomalainen agreed that the reforms and friendly policies for advancing Macedonia’s relations with its neighbors were contributing to the country’s progress and that and these favorable developments should be exploited in the best possible manner.
The reforms related to the electoral law are being conducted in line with the OSCE recommendations, Zaev said. Referring to media reforms, he said the process was aimed at making room for investigative journalism and freedom of speech.
‘We have been working on wrapping up the reform process, significant for the country’s EU, NATO membership, but also for upgrading living standard of citizens. We have been also working on advancing the relations with our neighbors and settling the open issues that stand on Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic path,’ Zaev said, expressing hope for Macedonia to commence the EU accession talks and get an invitation to join NATO.
OSCE remains staunch supporter of the democratic processes in Macedonia and ready to grant assistance to the country to that effect, Suomalainen said.
Today, Suomalainen paid a farewell visit to PM Zaev, as her mandate as Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje is expiring. lk/16:28
