Skopje hosts Prom Parade 2018

Skopje, 18 May 2018 (MIA) - The traditional event Prom Parade 2018 will be held Friday at noon in Macedonia Square in Skopje.

High school graduates are to dance the Quadrille upon Johann Strauss's opera music from The Bat. Also high school graduates from Struga, Ohrid, Strumica, Gevgelija and Kumanovo are to take part at the parade.

Organisers of the event are Directorate for Culture and Art and "Ritam Plus" dance club, sponsored by the City of Skopje and the EU Delegation to Macedonia.

“This year besides Macedonia, the graduates from 62 cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Hungary, Croatia and Montenegro will participate in the project,” said Nikola Gligorov from the Directorate for Culture and Art. He stressed that over 30.000 high school graduates are expected to participate this year.

Skopje Mayor Petre Silegov will open the event, whereat the Macedonian Radio-Radio Skopje will take over the radio signal from Slovenia streaming the music from Johann Strauss's opera The Bat.

Prom Parade was launched in 2001 in Ljubljana and Skopje and Ohrid joined synchronized dance in 2007. sk/10:58
