Skopje, 20 September 2018 (MIA) – There is no doubt that citizens of Macedonia wish for their country to join the European Union and NATO and now the time has come for them to say what they want, Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska said Thursday at a meeting with citizens of Skopje municipality Kisela Voda.
She invited the citizens to come out on the referendum day – 30 September – and vote for Macedonia’s future.
Speaking about the benefits joining the Euro-Atlantic institutions, Sekerinska notified the EU, NATO support of Macedonia during a difficult period for the country.
‘We can see how the EU solidarity works when some of its members are in trouble.
‘We have seen the changes for the better in Bulgaria after it joined the Union. Twenty years ago Macedonia’s infrastructure, economy was better. But for the last 20 years Macedonia has been out, while Bulgaria has made efforts and became the EU member,’ she said.
During the 2001 conflict, she said, Macedonia asked for and got help from the EU, NATO.
‘Now we should hope for membership, not to ask for help.’
Many international officials have been visiting Macedonia this month to say that EU, NATO doors are opened for the country. Now it is up to citizens to come in, Sekerinska said. lk/21:56
