FinMinTevdovski: World Bank earmarks EUR 400m for projects in Macedonia

Skopje, 13 October 2018 (MIA) - The World Bank will make available about EUR 400m to Macedonia for projects over the next four years. The news was announced at the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, attended by Finance Minister Dragan Tevdovski and NIBR Governor Anita Angelovska Bezoska.

The package of projects and a new strategy for cooperation with the World Bank were a subject of discussion of the meeting of Macedonian officials and World Bank Vice President Cyril Muller and Regional Director for Western Balkans Linda Van Gelder.

The fresh WB funds are aimed for improving the competitiveness of Macedonia’s private sector. Under the new strategy 2019-2023 substantial funds will be allocated for improving the competitiveness of the Macedonian economy and achieving inclusive and sustainable growth, Tevdovski said.

‘It may be achieved by improving the competitiveness of the private sector, protecting the most vulnerable categories and creating new opportunities for them, as well as strengthening the institutions and sustainability of public finances. We are talking about 35 projects for business support, transport and communications, health, social protection, labor and social affairs, information society and administration, education and science, environment, finance and agriculture,’ he said. lk/11:33
