MPs to put national above all other interests, says Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje

Skopje, 13 October 2018 (MIA) – The Parliament and political leaders should now make a decision related to country’s perspective and in such situation the MPs are obliged to put the national before all other interests, Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje Clemens Koja says in an interview with MIA.

Macedonia’s success to reach the agreement with Greece on the long-lasting (name) dispute is a very positive example for the entire region, Koja says.

Ambassador Koja is pleased to take the office in Skopje on time for the 30 September referendum, considering its significance for the country. He is also satisfied with the ODIHR preliminary conclusions on the plebiscite, which say that ‘the 30 September referendum was administered impartially and fundamental freedoms were respected throughout the campaign.’

With regards to the constitutional revision, stemming from the Prespa (name) agreement, possibility for snap election and alleged bargains for pardoning ex-PM Nikola Gruevski and his associates, Koja says the issue of accountability is actually an issue of the rule of law.

Charges for serious crimes have been brought, confirmed by the courts and the trials are in progress, Koja says, notifying that the defendants are entitled to fair trial and should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. An epilogue of the wiretapping affair should be written through the legal process, he says. lk/13:55
