Finance Ministry pays €22 million subsidies to tobacco farmers

Mogila, 17 May 2018 (MIA) - Finance Ministry through Agency for Financial Support in Agriculture and Rural Development paid Thursday €22 million as subsidies to tobacco farmers from 2017 harvest.

This was said by Agriculture Minister Ljupco Nikolovski during his visit to Mogila adding that this is over 80 percent of the total amount that will be paid to tobacco farmers.

“The remaining amount of 20 percent will be paid after the completed controls. We are continuing with the policy of non-selective payment of subsidies in one day for all tobacco producers. We are continuing with the policy of timely payment of subsidies and returning back the money to citizens necessary to invest in the new harvest,” Nikolovski said.

He said that the tobacco farmers received increased subsidies at three levels – 80 denars per kilo for first-class tobacco, 70 denars per kilo for second-class tobacco and 60 denars per kilo for third-class and fourth-class tobacco.

Director of the Agency for Financial Support in Agriculture and Rural Development Nikolce Babovski said that the Agency will meet the legal deadline by 30 June for payment of all he subsidies from 2017 programme. sk/14:57
