Skopje, 8 March 2018 (MIA) – Tonight's Philharmonic Orchestra concert "Women’s Stories" will feature Russian-born German pianist Olga Scheps and will be conducted by internationally acclaimed Macedonian conductor Elena Mitrevska.
Scheps will perform the well-known Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The repertoire includes Beethoven's Leonore Overture No. 3, as well as the expressive L'Arlésienne, Suites No. 1 and No. 2, by Georges Bizet.
Russian-born Scheps started playing the piano at age 5. Her family moved from Moscow to Germany in 1992. She was one of the youngest students at the Cologne University of Music, which she graduated from in 2013.
In 2009 she signed an exclusive contract with Sony Classical, and in 2016 she recorded her 7th album for the label. Her debut CD Chopin won her an ECHO Klassik Award as Newcomer of the Year.
As a Steinway artist, Scheps often performs with celebrated orchestras and conductors at international classical music festivals.
Macedonian conductor Elena Mitrevska comes to Skopje from Oviedo, where she works as the choirmaster of the Spanish city's Opera House. She graduated from the Music Faculty in Skopje in 2008 and continued her studies in choral and orchestral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In 2014, Mitrevska received Austria’s Erwin Ortner prize for choral conducting. Since 2015 she has been the creative director of the choral and orchestral music workshop in Hinterschmiding, Germany.
Mitrevska made her Macedonian debut in 2015 when she conducted the Chamber Music Orchestra of the Music Youth of Macedonia at the Ohrid Summer and Skopje Summer festivals. mr/09:19
