Skopje, 1 March 2018 (MIA) - The Strategic Defense Review (SDR), a document containing vital aspects related to the country's defense, is a priority for the Defense Ministry and its completion is expected in mid-2018.
Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska said Thursday the SDR has not been drafted for years, whereas the new Government has been working on it from the very beginning, supported by advisers from the United States, UK and Germany.
According to her, no major procurement and modernization of the Macedonian Army (ARM) are planned for 2018.
"We will not repeat the mistake from 2017 and enter a procurement procedure without knowing the priorities. The number one priority is completion of the Strategic Defense Review, expected by mid-2018. It will define the real needs and priorities in the section of procurement," Sekerinska told reporters in Ilinden army barracks.
She said the SDR will identify the capabilities and capacities that the army should have and the priorities of its modernization, whereas the current focus is put on improving the standard of ARM members and their working conditions. ik/13:09
