Brussels, 12 October 2018 (MIA) - Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has expressed hope that Kosovo will reach an agreement with Serbia by next spring, including a border revision and exchange of territories.
"The border revision is not an idea I would like to promote, but after conflicts and negotiations, I see it as the only reasonable solution for both sides. Nobody can oppose it if both sides reach an agreement, which brings stability," says President Thaci in an interview with France 24.
"Serbia and Kosovo constantly put obstacles to one another. Their future will be blocked without such a deal and I do not want that to happen," says Thaci.
He adds that Kosovo would accept the agreement if it contained the aspects of mutual recognition and the country's UN membership, adding he has received positive signals from Russia over its veto in the UN Security Council.
Thaci says rights of Serbs in Kosovo will be respected in case of border revision and that the country will remain a multiethnic state.
He expresses hope that High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will continue to lead the process with fresh dynamics, including a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "in the coming weeks."
Germany has opposed any attempts for territory exchange and border revision.
Thaci admits the idea of territory exchange would be a precedent, but a positive one. ik/12:28
